Domotics

"Home automation (also called domotics) is a field within building automation, specializing in the specific automation requirements of private homes and in the application of automation techniques for the comfort and security of its residents. Although many techniques used in building automation (such as light and climate control, control of doors and window shutters, security and surveillance systems, etc.) are also used in home automation, additional functions in home automation include the control of multi-media home entertainment systems, automatic plant watering and pet feeding, and automatic scenes for dinners and parties.

The main difference between building automation and home automation is, however, the human interface. In home automation, ergonomics is of particular importance: the control should be largely image-based and self-explanatory." - Wikia

And it's true.  Home automation takes hundreds of small tasks and performs them on schedule so you can focus on more important things.   Let's list some of the stressors that one hypothetical customer has eliminated with the Vera 2 controller and various sensors:

Wake-up: Vera turns on bedside lamps to 25% brightness at 5:00 and increases intensity for the next hour simulating sunrise.  Most of the time our customer prefers to turn off her alarm clock before it goes off after the calm wake-up lighting cycle.  The smell of fresh coffee automatically brewing helps also.

Leave for work:  Vera waits for 15 minutes after her scheduled departure and turns off all unnecessary lighting, televisions, coffee pot, etc.  All doors are locked automatically and door sensors are armed.  Air conditioning is set to an away schedule, saving on utility bills.

During the day:  Door and window alarms send a text message if they are opened or closed.  Motion sensors do the same.  If a text if received, she can open an app on her smart phone and view inside and outside her home on three wireless cameras.

Kids come home:  When the front door opens with a code for her daughter, she gets a text.  Knowing that her daughter is safe is an important stress relief.  If her daughter comes home early, the air conditioner resets itself to its occupied setting automatically.

Coming home:  Vera anticipates the family return and adjusts the air conditioner to a more comfortable temperature an hour before the family's arrival.  At dusk, she turns on outdoor lighting which she will turn off at 9 pm.

Evening:  The family can each control lighting or any other automation with their I-Phones or Android phones.  Special lighting "scenes" can be set up for tv watching, homework time, house cleaning, go to bed, etc.  These scenes can be activated based on time, motion, doors opening, a pre-set timer, or at will.

Go to bed:  Vera will shut down all unnecessary lighting, lock doors, adjust outside lights, turn off appliances, and adjust the air conditioning system at a pre-set time.  If Vera detects movement during the night she will turn on lights at the intensity and location the customer prefers.

Home automation can be addictive, but you don't know you're addicted until it's not available.  Domotics can simplify your life, improve your security, lower your utility bills and simplify your life.  Call Surgi's at 469-4232 for a free consultation.
